Peter Culos writes Stuart jinxed me! On the recent Wonderfest episode, seconds after Stuart mentioned getting your Xacto knife impaled on your leg I found mine sticking out of my calf! What kind of voodoo does Stuart practice up there in the great white north? Yikes!
Despite the danger, I’ll keep listening. You guys do a super job and are great companions for my workbench. I know it takes a lot of time but us lonely basement and attic modellers really appreciate it. Just try to lay off the black magic though!

Hi Jay, Anthony here. You can not go wrong with a 1/72 or 1/48 VF-1 kit from Hasegawa, for quality or price! There’s also very nice kits from Bandai who maintain very high-quality kits of the more current series! Hope you enjoy it!

Hi guys, just been listening to Ep 52. Re the new release Italeri 1/9 German Infantryman, I’m pretty sure this is a re-pop of the old Esci kit (#6001) which I have somewhere in my stash!
And re the HobbyBoss XM706E2, they also did an M706 (kit # 82148 from 2008) and Verlinden did an XM76E2 way back in 1988 (kit # 369).

First I want to say I’m going to miss hearing Anthony every episode, I think he’s been a great co-host. But I completely understand life comes first. And I’m glad he will still be involved doing the interviews.
I was about to type up a big discussion on model railroad scales but decided it wasn’t really that interesting. So all I’ll say on the subject is that you mentioned at least one of the odder scales (I think it was On30) where the train is a different scale than the track and you wondered why that was. The reason these exist is because not every actual railroad uses the same distance between rails and if you want an accurate scale model railroad of such a railway then you need these odd scales.
You also asked us to write about our thoughts on constant-scale modeling. For me, I’m “sort of” a constant-scale modeller in that I have a specific scale for each type of subject: Aircraft (early flight) I do in 1:32, Military Vehicles of all types are 1:35, Maschinen Krieger is 1:20, Gunpla is Master Grade (aka 1:100). Where I break my rules is general science fiction, because it’s nearly impossible to get a consistent scale across multiple topics in sci-fi.
Anyway, I really enjoy the show and am very interested in hearing what your rotating guest hosts bring to the show. Stay safe and build those models!

Geoff Guilt and sorrow. Too busy to do much modelling, but I have an assembly line of around 10 kits, all at a “hope versus fear” stage – looks pretty good so far, but each needs a critical step where I am less than comfortable with my skill sets – rigging, scratch building some landing skis for a Curtiss Condor, weathering a Millenium Falcon, smooth finishing several X-planes, weathering a Korean war Patton tank, final bits and pieces on a 1/200 B-52 and X-15, handheld camo on a Hawker Hunter, etc. Also started to repair and finish a slew of kits that I started in the 1990’s before kids and career really took over, including an old Matchbox 1/72 Corvette, several Monogram 1/48 early jets, Italeri 1/48 SR-71 and old mold Airfix Vulcan. So much guilt!
*************************************** THINGS WE’VE SEEN
Great tip from IPMS London member Michael Hill. Before I work with decals that may be tricky to fit I make a copy of the sheet to use as templates. Here I’m checking the fit of these custom decals under the engine pylon, as you can see it needed a wee bit trimmed off for a better fit. This also works well for a strip of windows, as the decals may not match the kit.
Geoff – Pictures circulating on Facebook and a story in the UK Daily Mail (Aug 26) of a Soviet Ekranoplane prototype that was being towed to a museum on the Caspian sea when something went wrong and it wound up marooned on shore. An “Urban Explorer” snuck into it to get some amazing pictures and drone shots – I must get a kit of this incredible beast!
Geoff – on the strength of Stuart’s informal review, I ordered the 1/72 Mercury Atlas and Redstone rockets from Horizon Models in Australia! First time ordering from our friends down under and really curious about the delivery process and border/customs stuff.
