The Scale Model Podcast – Ep. 161 – Beyond The Box Art

Scale Model Podcast — Episode 161
Beyond The Box Art® — Episode 28

Breaking the Hiatus!

Hiya Benchmates — and a very warm welcome to something a little bit special.

This episode sees Beyond The Box Art® joining forces with the Scale Model Podcast as we help cover the gap SMP has left since Stuart took a break to look after his better half following a prolonged health issue — and what better way to do it than with a proper transatlantic natter session.

Joining Brownie for this one from the UK are Dan Brazil & Shane Cowie and from SMP we have dusted off Geoff Heyland and Terry Miesley for a general hobby conversation and how BTBA was robbed at the moosaroo cup 😊 amongst many other topics.
Unfortunately we had a technical issue whilst recording, so there are a few bits of the conversation which sound a bit odd or not to the normal quality we try to put out – but it was better than losing a big chunk of the show!

Stash Inflation Report

As always, we bring you the latest kit announcements, new releases, aftermarket updates, and all the incoming damage to your wallet that’s heading straight for the stash.

Plus… The Usual BTBA & SMP Banter

Alongside the feature, expect plenty of bench chat, laughs, and that unmistakable mix of insight and nonsense that only happens when modellers get together — this time, on both sides of the Atlantic.

If you enjoy hearing passionate modellers talking honestly about the hobby — this is absolutely one you don’t want to miss.

So… clear a space on your bench, line up the sprues, grab a brew…

Episode 161 & Episode 28 starts NOW!

Status of the Podcast and I

As you have noticed, we have not recorded any episodes of The Scale Model Podcast since the early summer.

This is due to several factors: my wife’s health and ongoing care required at home, and my own mental and physical health.

Taking care of her, including getting to medical appts, making meals, etc., results in me being quite tired by the time evening comes. This is when normally I would be working on the bench or on the podcast. This also results in a lack of modelling mojo. I have sat down on the bench, opened a kit and said ‘nope, not today’ and closed the lid again.

We purchased an e-reader when she was in the hospital, and I’ve been using that to catch up on reading quite a few books I’ve been meaning to read over the years. I find that it is not too taxing on my brain.

She is getting more mobile every week, and we are hoping to schedule surgery to reverse the colostomy and improve her quality of life. I’m hoping that when that happens, I’ll have more mental and physical capacity to get back with the podcast and the bench.

Be well.

WHAT’S ON THE BENCH
Stuart – Finished a tiny model of a Gelvades Class Battle Carrier from Star Blazers 2199. Started 1 of two Bandai Cosmo Python Fighters. These are very tiny, 1/200, but I love the look of them.

Geoff – continuing on the Heller 1/72 Douglas DC-6B in fictitious water bomber markings for my brother’s growing fleet.

Terry – Working on Fade To Black’s 1/10 Hammerhead Shark, finally.  Assembly and filling.  Painting a couple Reaper dragons, a forest dragon and a magma dragon.  Still in airbrush stage now, but will be in brush painting before too much longer.  Mechs are still in assembly, slow going is fine for these.
