As you have noticed, we have not recorded any episodes of The Scale Model Podcast since the early summer.
This is due to several factors: my wife’s health and ongoing care required at home, and my own mental and physical health.
Taking care of her, including getting to medical appts, making meals, etc., results in me being quite tired by the time evening comes. This is when normally I would be working on the bench or on the podcast. This also results in a lack of modelling mojo. I have sat down on the bench, opened a kit and said ‘nope, not today’ and closed the lid again.
We purchased an e-reader when she was in the hospital, and I’ve been using that to catch up on reading quite a few books I’ve been meaning to read over the years. I find that it is not too taxing on my brain.
She is getting more mobile every week, and we are hoping to schedule surgery to reverse the colostomy and improve her quality of life. I’m hoping that when that happens, I’ll have more mental and physical capacity to get back with the podcast and the bench.
Geoff – continuing on the Heller 1/72 Douglas DC-6B in fictitious water bomber markings for my brother’s growing fleet.
Terry – Working on Fade To Black’s 1/10 Hammerhead Shark, finally. Assembly and filling. Painting a couple Reaper dragons, a forest dragon and a magma dragon. Still in airbrush stage now, but will be in brush painting before too much longer. Mechs are still in assembly, slow going is fine for these.

WHAT’S ON THE BENCH Stuart – With the model show planning and life, no time for bench work this week.
Geoff – two windstorms in London impacted our neighbourhood, resulting in changes in our lives and one chainsaw accident…
As a tie in to the books I’ve been reading I worked on repairing a couple of dinosaur skeletons originally built by Steve Harvey, who passed away last year.
A year ago I built a 1/48 Monogram DC-3 for my brother, who had just become a grandfather and wanted a “bush plane/rescue thing” to hang from the ceiling of his cottage. A fellow club member made custom decals for “Nana and Pops Rescue Service”, with a logo I designed of a bare bum passing explosive gas. It was flown by my brother’s nom de plume, “Rocco Flamefart”…. Anyway, he wants more vehicles for the “fleet”, so I am now building a Heller 1/72 DC6B in N&P markings!
I also have been working on the old Hobbycraft 1/28 Fokker DR1. Not bad and satisfyingly substantial!
Terry – I can see the bench again! I’m getting close to getting back on the bench itself. As far as building goes, not much new. Still the same mechs and some base coat on the two Reaper dragons.

Terry – Ed Yong’s I Contain Multitudes. About microorganisms, specifically our micro biome. A very good read, so far. Catching up on the My Happy Marriage light novels.
